The following Anchorage area construction projects and events will cause traffic delays this week.

1) E St. between W. 4th Ave. and W. 6th Ave.

Expect a full road closure on E St. from south of 6th Ave. to north of the 7th/8th alley for road improvements. Access to the JC Penney garage from E St. will be prohibited during this closure. Please use the 6th Ave. entrance during this time.

Please follow appropriate detour routes and drive with caution.

Additionally, expect a full road closure on E St. between W. 4th Ave. and W. 6th Ave. into September for pedestrian and road improvements. Eastbound W. 6th Ave. will be open for traffic. Please follow appropriate detour routes.

2) E. 5th Ave. between Gambell St. and Airport Heights Dr.

Mountain View Dr. north of the Glenn Hwy. intersection, will be closed between Friday, September 5th at 8:00 PM through Monday, September 8th at 6:00 AM. Business access will be permitted throughout this closure. Please follow appropriate construction signs for detour routes.

FUTURE CLOSURE: 5th Ave. from Gambell St. to Airport Heights Dr. will be closed from Friday, September 12 at 8:00 PM through Monday, September 15 at 6:00 AM. Please follow appropriate detour routes.

Be alert to intermittent closures and flagging operations on Merrill Field Frontage Rd., from Concrete St. to Airport Heights Dr. Local and business access will be permitted on Concrete St.

Be alert to changing traffic patterns and watch for changes to pedestrian detour routing.

3) Baxter Rd. between 35th Ave. and Village Pkwy.

Beginning Friday, September 5 at 8:00 PM through Monday, September 8 at 6:00 AM, expect a full road closure on Baxter Rd. between 35th Ave. and Village Pkwy. for water and sewer work.

FUTURE CLOSURE: An additional closure on Baxter Rd. between 35th Ave. and Village Pkwy. will take place between Friday, September 12th at 8:00 PM through Monday, September 15th at 6:00 AM.

4) Lake Otis Pkwy. between Northern Lights Blvd. and 36th Ave.

Expect nightly lane restrictions on Lake Otis Pkwy. between Northern Lights Blvd. and 36th Ave. and on Northern Lights Blvd. from Lake Otis Pkwy. to Career Center Dr. from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM. Expect noise and vibrations throughout the project.

5) Glenn Hwy. at Bragaw Street Interchange

Bragaw St. from 2nd Ave. to the Glenn Hwy. remains closed due to construction activities.

Please follow construction signs for detour routes.

6) Strawberry Rd. between Jewel Lake Rd. and Northwood Dr.

Expect intermittent full road closures on Strawberry Rd. between Jewel Lake Rd. and Northwood Dr. for road improvements. Flagging operations and single lane closures will also be in intermittent effect. Residential access will be maintained. Please follow appropriate detour routes.

7) Pine St. between E. 8th Ave. and Debarr Rd.

Expect a full road closure on Pine St. between E. 8th Ave. and Debarr Rd. for water utility upgrades. Please follow appropriate detour routes.

8) Independence Dr. between Lake Otis Pkwy. and O'Malley Rd.

Drivers should expect intermittent full road closures at various locations along Independence Dr. between Lake Otis Pkwy. and O'Malley Rd. for road improvements. Please follow appropriate detour routes and drive with caution.

9) C St. at 36th Ave.

Expect nightly lane restrictions on C St. from 34th Ave. to south of 36th Ave., and on 36th Ave. from east of C St. to west of C St. from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM, Monday through Friday.

Expect heavy equipment, flaggers and construction workers on the shoulder of C St. and 36th Ave.

10) Dena'ina Civic and Convention Center (Downtown Area)

Beginning Thursday, July 31 at 7:00 PM through Monday, August 4 at 6:00 AM, expect a full road closure at the intersection of G St. and 7th Ave. for paving operations. Please follow appropriate detour routes.

Expect multiple sidewalk and road closures in the downtown area due to construction on the new Dena'ina Civic and Convention Center. The following roads will be effected:

7th Ave. between F St. & G St.

8th Ave. between F St. & G St.

F St. between 7th Ave. & 8th Ave.

G St. between 6th Ave. & 8th Ave.

Please use caution and follow detour routes. All businesses in the effected area will be open to the public. Construction will continue in various stages through 2008.
